Jim Komarmi , Head Coach and Program Director
The Mad River Glen Ski Club is under the direction and guidance of Race Director, Jim Komarmi. Jim comes to us from Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) where he was the Director of Junior Development for the past 6 years, and was their U12 (J4) Alpine Coach prior to that. Jim hails from the Buffalo, NY area and learned to ski at Kissing Bridge . Jim has his B.S. in International Business from SUNY Plattsburgh and an MBA from the University of Vermont.

Rick Ruback
Rick Ruback is a Club Level certified race coach and Alpine official. This will be his 13th season at Mad River Glen. Prior to joining Mad River Glen Ski Club, he was a coach and program director for the Bolton Valley Race Club. When he is not coaching, Rick is the William Prescott Smith Professor of Corporate Finance at the Harvard Business School.


Tony Unica
Tony’s experience is as deep as it is broad. A student of the sport for nearly his whole life, Tony has coached extensively throughout Vermont and is responsible for fostering a love ski racing in many successful ski racers. Tony’s excellent “eye” coupled with his strong technical background make him a favorite among athletes. When Tony’s not on the hill, he can be found watching his daughter play basketball or working on his latest automotive restoration.

Kathy Haskell
Kathy began coaching at Mad River Glen in 2004 and has recently returned after starting her family. For the past few seasons, Kathy has coached the U10/U8’s (J5/6) where she was always known for packing Hersey’s Kisses or hand warmers. Currently, Kathy is bringing her energy and expertise to our new U8 program. Prior to coaching at Mad River, Kathy coached at Sugarbush and Burke Mountain Academy.  She graduated from Burke in 1990, spent one year after high school pursuing the ski dream and went on to University of Colorado, Boulder where she gained a real appreciation for free skiing. Outside of coaching, Kathy is a certified Elementary teacher, an entrepreneur/business owner, SPIN instructor and a mother of three children.

Chris Ingvoldstad
Chris st arted coaching at Mad River in 2009 season after 12 years of racing for the Smugglers' Notch Ski Club. He has also coached college race camps at Smugglers'. When not skiing and coaching, he is a full time student in the Physicians’ Assistant program at the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine. Chris also has a degree in economics from University of Vermont and enjoys hiking, running, and rock climbing in his spare time.

Mike Riddell
Mike makes any athletic activity look easy. A former collegiate athlete and a lifetime fitness buff, Mike has coached junior soccer as well as high school lacrosse and skiing. When Mike’s not leading the charges through the trees, he’s the owner of Mike Riddell Photography ; check him out!

Shelly McSweeney
Shelly has been involved in ski racing for several years at MRG. She has raised two children, Aniken and Tristian, both who learned to race and graduated from the MRSC program. She brings her years of experience, endless energy and intimate knowledge of MRG (and all the fun places to ski) to the U8 program. .

Jeff Doemland
Jeff is a certified Alpine Official and Referee. He’s been a coach and student of the sport as his four children have grown up skiing and ski racing. Count on Jeff to find the sweet spot on the hill or cheer up any athlete after a tough day of training.

Will Doemland
Will is an alum of the Mad River Ski Club and a fantastic skiing example for our athletes. Will love impromptu push-up contests, athlete-coach races, big-air clinics and cookies.
